The Jiany community in Guit County of Unity State has reviewed the one-year resolution that ended the conflict in 2023.

During the Monday meeting, the community noted that there have not been any violations of the resolutions signed in 2023.

The four resolutions agreed upon by the community included stopping revenge killing in communities.

Other resolutions also included blood compensation of 51 cows, which was applied when someone is involved in planning for revenge or killing someone and would compensate with cows and/or serve 10 years in prison.

If someone kills an intellectual, the person is to pay 120 cows as blood compensation, but if an officer is involved in the release of criminals illegally, he or she will replace the criminal in jail.

Mr. Simon Kueth, a member of Chengkuoth in the Jiany community said that the agreement has been respected by both communities since 2023.

He blamed the leaders, and intellectuals for arming the youths in the areas in the past.

Another resident of Guit County, Mose Kai said the resolutions of the Jiany Community conference were being respected by the Jiany community members, saying since 18 March 2023 there has not been any conflict.

“We have been free from revenge attacks since 2023 up to this year, and there are no revenge attacks against ourselves since we established the conference dialogue.”

James Madut, the State Minister of Peace Building commended the Guit County Commissioner for facilitating the dialogue among the communities.

He reaffirmed the peace committees’ readiness, emphasizing their experience in raising community awareness about peace initiatives.

James urged the commissioner to coordinate with partners to support the Jiany community, ensuring a holistic approach to peacebuilding.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Guit County, James Diu encouraged the peace committees to document their resolutions.
