At least 100 police officers will be deployed in Unity State to provide security during the festivities.
Unity State Police Spokesperson, John Malieth, told The City Review on Thursday that the security detail will be dispatched from December 24.
Malieth said crimes are common during the festivities, which put the public at risk of being victims of criminal elements.
The Commissioner stated that the security personnel would be stationed at key locations, including Bentiu town, Rubkonta market and Bentiu IDP camp, including the Sector Two market, and the officers will undertake various roles, from inspecting vehicles on the roads to frisking individuals at the entrances of the celebration venues.
He added that the officers will work by code of ethics, with females being frisked by female police officers and vice versa.
Most residents lauded the initiative, with one of the residents from Bentiu IDP, identified as Lueth, saying the initiative will instill confidence especially during this time when criminal activities mix up in the celebrations.
Another citizen, Koang, welcomed the deployment of the officers, but lamented that despite the security involvement, residents in the area are going to face the festivities with little in their hands.
