South Sudan national team have suffered a setback ahead of a match against Jordan after nine players and a member of technical staff tested positive for coronavirus upon arriving in Qatar.
South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) revealed the saddening development on its Twitter page on Sunday morning, adding that more tests had been done to assess the extent of infection in the squad.
The SSFA tweeted: ‘‘At least nine of the Bright Star’s players and one technical staff tested positive [for COVID-19] and immediately isolated as per the precautionary measures applied. Meanwhile, six more players who had contact with the infected players were put under surveillance.’’
‘‘The National Team (Bright Star) and the delegation to Qatar had their second COVID-19 test this morning. SSFA wishes them all the best as they wait for their final test results,’’ the association added.
The Bright Stars jetted in Doha on Saturday to play Jordan in the preliminary of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021.
