Former South Sudanese international football referee Lual Maluk Lual has announced his bid for the presidency of the country’s football association.
Mr. Maluk, 39, will campaign against the incumbent South Sudan Football Association’s (SSFA) president Francis Amin next month.
The former player and referee promised reforms in the association among them the fight against corruption and improving player’s situation at both national and local levels to enable the country’s sports to hit international standards.
“Corruption is one of the phenomena that cripples progress which I will stand against to ensure football industry can compete internationally,” Mr. Lual said in a press conference this afternoon in capital, Juba.
The SSFA president’s term in office ends every four years with the next beginning in June 2021 to June 2025.
South Sudan football industry has been affected by lack of infrastructure to develop its capacity. The country’s national football stadium is still under construction.
