The Juba City Council is mulling an investigation into a robbery incident that took place at the office of the former mayor, Kalisto Lado.

Last month, the office of the former mayor was broken into and computers and money, the city council revealed.

Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, launched the investigation and directed the State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement to lead the investigation and hold accountable those involved. He directed the security organs, especially the police, to work closely on the investigations.

Speaking to The City Review, Minister of Local Government and Law-Enforcement, Moro Isaac Jenesio, said that a confidential report was still with the authorities of Juba City Council waiting to be given to the state government.

“Although the Governor has directed me to lead the investigation, the Juba City Council still has the confidential evidence,”Jenesio said.

Up to now the office remains locked and it’s under the supervision of the police. The newly appointed mayor, Michael Alla-jabu Thomas is operating from one of the offices to give way to the investigations,

Last week, The City Review visited the area and found that the security officers were deployed at the door side of the office and it remained closed.

The Central Equatoria State governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, revealed during the swearing-in ceremony of Mr Alla-jabu that gunshots and other criminal-related activities have been reduced in Juba following the collective responsibilities of the organised forces and Juba City Council as well as the state authorities.

‘‘The police officers are beefing up security to protect travellers and residents from criminals as the citizens prepare for the Christmas festivities. The government has so far deployed more forces within the residential areas and they will ensure all roads leading out of Juba are safe for travellers,’’ he stated.

The South Sudan National Police Services Spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin, said the security situation in Juba is calm due to the deployment of police forces in different locations. He said the organised forces are well-equipped to make sure that there is security within residential areas and along the roads.

Justin said there are also community police who are working closely with the local leaders to make sure that criminal cases are handled and reported to the nearest police stations.

He said cases of random shooting and criminal activity have been reduced because of the improved cooperation between the police and the residents.
