16 civilians died in communal clashes in Lakes State over the weekend. A news report by Xinhua reveals that violence broke between two rival communities at Manyangrel cattle camp leading to the death of the victims.

There are scanty details around the violence but the local minister of culture, youth and sports, William Koji Kirjok, told the media that the situation was under control.

“We are still waiting for more reports from police who are now on the ground,” he said, as quoted by Xinhua.

South Sudan has had incidents of communal clashes revolving around the fight for pasture and retaliatory attacks in areas such as Pibor, Jonglei and Warrap. Recently, a group of youth recently attacked civilians who went to welcome Upper Nile governor Abudhok Ayang Kur, who was returning from Juba.
