Manchester City thrashed Liverpool at Anfield to tighten the grip at the top of the premier league table on Sunday evening.

The match started on a dull note with both sides doing less to gain the lead. Manchester City had the opportunity to leap infront after Raheem Sterling was fouled inside the box. But Ilkay Gundogan blasted the penalty over the bar.

It took a few minutes of play for the German to come back with a close range finish in the buildup to make amends and put the Blues infront.

Liverpool bounced back when Mohamed Salah made no mistake from the penalty spot to score leveller. In the second half, Pep Guardiola’s men came back with a bang. They recovered possession quickly and capitalised on ability to press high up the pitch. This enabled the visitors to force the host to commit defensive mistakes where Gundogan grabbed a second for himself and the team.

With the Reds defence faltering through lack of communication and concentration, a stray clearance by Fabinho allowed Man City to launch counter-attack from few yards outside the box enabling Raheem Sterling to flick a header in the net and triple scores.

Phil Foden also picked a loose pass from Alisson Becker and rifled onto the roof of the net from the edge of the box making it four for the league leaders.

Man City have 50 points, five points ahead of second-place Manchester United with a game in hand as well.

Liverpool, the current champions sit fourth on the log with 40 points.
