Manchester United made history with 9-0 thumping of hapless Southampton on Tuesday night. The Saints were on the unfavourable side of things after youngster Alexandre Jankewitz received his matching orders just at 83 seconds of play. Mike Dean handed the 19-year a straight red for a cynical foul on Scott McTominay.

He found himself in the wrong side of history for getting the second quickest dismissal in EPL after former Blackburn and England goalkeeper Tim Flowers, who was sent off after 72 seconds in 1995.

Luke Shaw whipped a cross which Aaron Wan Bissaka met and slotted into the net giving the hosts the lead with just 18 minutes played. Marcus Rashford then shot from the Saints box hence doubling the lead before Jan Bednarek diverted Rashford’s cross into his own net to make it three for the Red Devils at the 34th minute.

Edinson Cavani would then convert Luke Shaw’s cross with a finely headed goal in the 39th minute- a goal that just cemented victory for the Red Devils who were not yet done.

The Saints had Che Adams’ goal ruled off after VAR intervened, but that could have been a mere drop in the ocean. Ole Gunnar Soskjaer made substitutions with Antony Martial coming in for Edinson Cavani. Martial grabbed two goals while McTominay, Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes scored a goal each to make it nine-a goal shy of double figures. It is not the first time the Saints suffered from a shambolic results.

Last season, Leicester City beat them with as many goals when they slipped to ten men in the course of the match. Man United has 44 points with 22 matches played. They sit Man City who have as many points with two games to play.
