At least seven people were injured in a road accident in Awerial County, Lakes State on Wednesday.

Col. Moses Machuoc, the Deputy Director of Traffic Police in Lakes State said the accident involved a heavy truck and a private vehicle that was on a high speed with the intention to overtake the truck.

“What happened, the small car collided with a heavy truck and got damaged completely beyond repair,” Col. Moses explained.

“The message to the public is that whenever you are on the road and you see a heavy vehicle  coming, keep your right hand and slow down to see in case if there are pot holes on the road,” he said.

There are so many things that can cause accidents on the roads.”

He said the owner of the small car cannot be compensated, “Now, you will get nothing at all from the owner of the heavy truck, because you came behind to overtake the big truck, and it’s you who is wrong.”

“It was you who caused such serious damage, you would have been held accountable for the cause of the accident because you came from behind to overtake the heavy truck ahead of you.”

Col. Moses said the driver was supposed to be arrested for reckless driving, but he is still nursing wounds in the hospital.

The seven survivors of the accident, including the driver, are receiving treatment at Rumbek hospital.
