Chelsea won against their London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs by a solitary goal handing their new coach Thomas Tuchel a first derby victory.

In a match that had high stakes for the bragging rights in pursuit for top four, Italian midfielder Jorginho scored a penalty that ensured victory for the visitors. Jose Mourinho was without English talisman Harry Kane. He was forced to deploy Brazilian forward Vinicius upfront as Son Heun-min and Steve Bergwijn lined up on the flanks.

Tuchel chose a line-up of Timo Werner upfront alongside Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech were all named on the bench. Chelsea had a blow just after the half time after Brazilian defender Thiago Silva left the pitch with a harmstring injury after stretching to clear his line.

Chelsea now moves to sixth place with 36 points after playing an extra match ahead of Spurs.
