Western Equatoria State’s Deputy Governor, Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa has condemned the violence in Tombura County.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Deputy Governor condemned the continued attacks, including killings, burning, and abductions in the area.

“This is a critical moment for Tambura County. These barbaric acts jeopardize the lives, peace, and security of our people. We cannot and will not tolerate such behavior,” he said.

The fatal shooting at the residence of the area commissioner Gen. Mathew Mabenge on Thursday has caused wide condemnation. It is the most aggressive act so far that has been reported.

However, other incidents included the killing of a young boy in Mabia Boma, an attack on a local chief in Mupoi, the burning of a mother and her child, a brutal panga assault on a woman, and the shooting of a medical officer.

Also, the kidnapping of teacher Joseph Ezoyo, and the shooting of a security officer on Saturday are other latest incidences.

“These acts are a direct attack on the efforts of the government and peace-loving citizens to implement the Peace Agreement and restore stability,” Daniel lamented.

The Deputy Governor assured the public of the security agencies’ commitment to addressing the crisis.

“Five suspects are already in custody,” he revealed, adding that four were linked to a killing at a disco, while one was apprehended in connection to the Mabia boy’s death. Efforts are underway to track down other perpetrators and hold them accountable.”

“I urge all residents of Tambura County to refrain from taking the law into their own hands or engaging in revenge attacks. Let us work together to restore peace and stability,” Daniel continued.

The deputy governor called for immediate de-escalation of violence and urged all citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive as the government is working tirelessly to restore order.

“Now is the time for the people of Tombura County to stand together,” he emphasized.

“Only through collective action we can overcome this crisis and secure a future of peace and stability for our communities.”
