Mason Mount bent a curler past Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the 42nd minute of the game handing Chelsea a deserved lead just a few minutes after Timo Werner’s goal had been ruled offside after a VAR check.

Chelsea dictated the game in the opening minutes but it was Liverpool that had the opportunity to leap to the steering wheel when Sadio Mane got a chance to finish his chance from close range but squandered it. The Reds went for the half-time break trailing the Blues courtesy of Mount’s goal and had to rethink the approach to break down the visitors.

In the second half again, it took the effort of Edouard Mendy to prevent Mane from equalising and keep Chelsea in the lead. Both Chilwell and Werner soon missed the chances to score after Mount kept pumping balls far post.

The Blues saw off the game thanks to defensive and midfield brilliance under the orchestration of Antonio Rudiger, Caeser Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and notably Ngolo Kante and Jorginho.

The win allowed Chelsea to bounce back to top four with 47 points, three points behind third-placed Leciester City (50 points) and four points behind second-placed Manchester United.

Liverpool drops to seventh on the log with 43 points and two points behind West Ham United.

Manchester City remains to be the league leaders with 65 points-14 points ahead of Manchester United. Liverpool have now lost five games at Anfield, making it the first time ever in over 100 years.
