After the much-hyped mouth-watering Manchester derby which had everything to play for, it was the red side of the city that carried the day and had the bragging rights.

Manchester United got their lead against their rivals Manchester City in the early minutes of the first half after Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot. The Blues intensified the efforts launching attacks and pressing the visitors but they failed to break the Red Devils defence.

Fred brought down Raheem Sterling in the box before the end of the first half but the referee waived ‘play on’ and the penalty appeal was later trashed after a VAR review.

In the second half, Luke Shaw doubled the lead of the visitors ensuring that his team had a firm grip on the victory. Manchester City, a team with a rock-solid defence and an enviable winning streak crumbled in the hands of the rivals. Red Devils on the other hand have enjoyed a successful away winning run and have fairly impressive performances against Pep Guardiola’s side in the last couple of years.

Manchester United now remains second on the log with 54 points as the Blues stay top of the table with 65 points and 10 games to end the campaign.
