President Salva Kiir on Wednesday met the new Special Representative of United Nations Secretary General and head of UNMISS Nicholas Haysom where he welcomed him in the country.
The State House revealed the two leaders met in Juba for a talk on the future of the country with regards to the quest to ensure the implementation of the peace deal is on course.
The tweet read: ‘‘President Salva Kiir met with & welcomed the Special Representative of United Nations Secretary General & Head of UNMISS Nicholas Haysom.’’
‘‘SRSG Haysom acknowledged progress made on RARCSS implementation & assured President Kiir of UN support to South Sudan in promoting the implementation of the peace agreement. He also congratulated the president for his efforts to support peace in the region & notably in Sudan,’’ it then added.
Haysom jetted in the country on April 26, where he was welcomed by the South Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Beatrice Wani-Noah at Juba International Airport.

He expressed the commitment to work with the country’s leadership in supporting the mandates of the mission to ensure that country gets back to normalcy.
“South Sudan is entering a new phase and people’s expectations are high. There is real hope for progress in the implementation of the peace agreement and, ultimately, achieving a more durable peace,” said Haysom.
“As partners in that process, the UN will continue to work with South Sudanese as well as regional and international partners to provide stability and, ultimately, secure prosperity for all citizens.”
The South African replaced David Shearer of New Zealand who departed after successfully completing his four-term of service in April.
