President Salva Kiir has intensified weeding his government to bring in officials he deems capable of delivering needed services to the citizens in South Sudan.
Since the start of the formation of the coalition government in February 2020, the President has made several changes with the latest relieving of Baba Medan Konyi as the deputy minister in the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology, and Postal Services.
Medan, who was appointed in March 2020 in the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU), was immediately replaced by Jacob M Baba Korok on Tuesday evening.
The changes, as usual, were announced on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) without citing the reason (s).
Before he was appointed a deputy minister of information, Medan, who has now taken his back seat in the public arena, had served as the first governor of the defunct Boma State in 2015.
Since the start of the formation of the revitalized government in February 2020, President Kiir has issued several decrees, relieving and appointing government officials at both national and state levels.
Some of the list
On Monday this week, Kiir sacked the Managing Director of the state-owned Nile Petroleum Corporation Company, Ring Bol Mourwel six days after relieving and appointing ministers and advisors to the state government in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
In September, the head of the state also relieved Beatrice Khamisa Wani as a minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and replaced her with Mayiik Ayii, the former Presidential Affairs Minister.
Some changes also took place in August 2021, when President Kiir issued a series of decrees firing three undersecretaries and replacing them immediately. These included Peter Gol Nhim was replaced by Clement Philmon Baime as undersecretary of the Ministry of Peace.
The Undersecretary of Humanitarian Affairs Peter Gatwech Kulang was replaced by Dr. Kot Bol Nyuar while Eng Jeremiah Turic was also replaced by Peter Konyjiel as the new undersecretary in the Ministry of Road…
The high court justice was fired in the month without replacement.
Furthermore, in August this year, the president sacked five officials of the Eastern Equatoria State government, including ministers, advisors, and members of the state independent commissions.
On July 27, President sacked the deputy governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Angelo Taban Biajo, and replaced him with Zacharia Joseph Garang.
On the same day, Kiir also revoked the appointment of an SPLM-IO Member of the Council of States, Simon Maguek Gai Majok, and also relieved Vienna Kakulye as a Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
In the same month the deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Deng Deng Akon who served for less than a year as also relieved by the president.
In the day, the head of state again issued another two separate decrees, revoking the appointment of Gabon Majok Baguat as a member of the reconstituted parliament and replaced him with Elizabeth Akuol Chol.
In June 2021, Warrap State governor, Bona Panek Biar was fired and Aleu Ayieny Aleu was appointed to replace him immediately.
