The Governor of Warrap State, Magok Magok Deng, has promised to ensure the construction of Kuajok Airport is completed.

He made the remarks upon his visit to the site on Monday, saying the completion of the airport would boost the economy of the State.

The construction and modernization work at the Kuajok Airport began on March 6, 2023, and the project was being implemented by Amoco Construction Co. Ltd.

However, the work came to a standstill on August 26, 2023, due to bureaucratic challenges linked to the transition in State leadership.

“A fully functional airport in Warrap State would be a viable undertaking to provide an alternative route for mobility of goods, services and labor, which is a critical aspect for economic stimulation and development,” Governor Magok said.

He further emphasized on the broader impact a completed airport could have on the local economy and community. “A developed airport can generate revenues for the State Government through taxes and also provide a sense of pride to its people.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Lands, Housing and Public Utilities said, “We are committed to engaging the State Government and construction firms to complete the construction.”

He also raised the issue of households currently sheltering within the territory of the airport land.

 “We will work on modalities of relocating households which fall within the Airport land for their own safety.”

Locals in Kuajok have long awaited the completion of the airport, which they hope will open up new opportunities for trade, travel, and investment.

The Governor’s visit has reignited optimism among residents, who believe that improved infrastructure can uplift the state’s economy and enhance the quality of life.
