The third anniversary of the Azande Kingdom was marked with a powerful call for unity, morality, and peace from the Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio Diocese. His Lordship Barani Eduardo Hiiboro  called for unity and peace among the communities of Western Equatoria State.

He was addressing the traditional leaders and government officials on Saturday during the third-anniversary celebration of the Azande Kingdom.

The bishop underscored the historical bond between the church and the Azande monarchy, emphasizing on their shared responsibility in shaping a society built on ethical values and harmony.

“The churches, especially the traditional ones, were welcomed and accepted by the King of the Azande. The church I serve in, the Tombura-Yambio Diocese, even carries the names of the King’s grandparents, showing our deep-rooted connection,” said Bishop Hiiboro.

“We work together in promoting good morals, upbringing, co-existence, and all that makes a community peaceful.”

His remarks come at a time when the Azande Kingdom is actively working towards revitalizing its cultural heritage and fostering social cohesion among its people.

The cleric stressed that the church and the kingdom must continue to reinforce the values that define the Azande identity, urging the citizens to embrace good behavior and respect for leadership.

The revival of the Azande Kingdom in 2020, has been a beacon of cultural and traditional pride for the people. Under the leadership of King Atoroba Peni Rikito Gbudue, the monarchy has been instrumental in advocating for peace, development, and the preservation of Azande customs. Bishop Hiiboro said faith and culture must work hand in hand to guide the kingdom’s future.

“This kingdom must flourish, and to do so, we must recalibrate our behavior, our attitudes both the King and his people. We are all part of this kingdom, and we must ensure that our traditions and values are upheld,” he declared.

In the wake of ongoing peace building efforts in Western Equatoria State, where ethnic tensions and conflicts over land and resources have often threatened stability, the bishop’s message resonates deeply.

Religious institutions have played a critical role in conflict resolution, and the church’s collaboration with the Azande Kingdom is seen as a step toward durable peace.

“May this kingdom flourish, may it have many children, and may those who work for its prosperity be blessed,” Bishop Hiiboro said.
