The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Secretariat in Ibba County Western Equatoria State, has launched a party membership registration exercise aimed at updating its records, strengthening grassroots structures and organizing its members ahead of South Sudan’s forthcoming elections.

The exercise was officially launched, under the leadership of Cde Tito Jerosama, chairperson of the SPLM Ibba County Secretariat, with financial and other contributions from individual party members.

The initiative comes as political parties prepare for the elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, placing renewed attention on membership records, internal coordination and the organization of party structures at county and grassroots levels.

According to information provided by the county secretariat, the registration exercise is intended to establish an updated record of party members and strengthen communication between the leadership and supporters across Ibba County.

The secretariat said the process would also provide a basis for facilitating members’ participation in party activities and supporting the implementation of the movement’s programmes.

“The registration exercise is an important step towards updating our membership records, strengthening our grassroots structures and improving coordination among party members as we prepare for the forthcoming elections,” the secretariat’s Chairperson Tito Jerosama said.

The launch also highlighted the role of individual party members in supporting the secretariat’s activities. Their contributions were described as demonstrating a commitment to the party’s organizational work and programmes within the county.

Membership registration is a key organizational process for political parties, allowing them to maintain records of their supporters, communicate with members and coordinate activities across local structures.

For the SPLM in Ibba County, the exercise could help the secretariat establish a clearer picture of its membership records and improve coordination between county leadership and grassroots supporters.

The secretariat has not yet disclosed the number of people expected to register, the duration of the exercise, the number of registration centres or whether specific targets have been established for the county’s different areas.

It also remains unclear whether the exercise is limited to updating existing membership records or includes the registration of new members.

These details would help establish the scale of the initiative and the extent of participation among the party’s supporters.

The launch comes ahead of the elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, as political parties face the task of organizing their structures and preparing members for the electoral period.

For the SPLM Ibba County Secretariat, the registration exercise forms part of its stated efforts to strengthen internal coordination before the polls.

The secretariat has not announced whether the registration exercise will be linked to a specific internal party process or how the updated records will be used during the election period.

Further clarification from the county leadership would help explain the practical objectives of the exercise and the expected benefits for registered members.

The launch nevertheless marks a new phase in the secretariat’s stated organizational activities, with individual members contributing to the process as the party works to strengthen its presence in Ibba County.

As the registration continues, the number of people enrolled, the transparency of the process and the effective use of the resulting membership records will be important indicators of its progress.
