Chelsea FC have sacked first team manager Frank Lampard. The club announced the decision on its Twitter page in the afternoon on Monday ending days of speculations after the team started registering bad run of results.
‘‘Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Frank Lampard,’’ the club tweeted.
The club announcement however came after the famous football journalist Fabrizio Romano made the announcement on his Twitter page. Romano even went ahead to say that the London club had lined up former PSG boss Thomas Tuchel as the replacement for the Stamford Bridge legend, who signed for the club to turn things around two windows ago.
Romano tweeted: ‘‘Thomas Tuchel is set to become the new Chelsea manager, confirmed. Frank Lampard will be officially sacked today – Tuchel has accepted the #CFC job and is expected to sign in the coming hours. Blue circle
RB Lepzig won’t let Nagelsmann go now + Allegri is considering other options/clubs.’’
The Blues sit eighth on the log and have only won two matches out of eight games played so far.
Reasons for sacking?
Before the incident, the British media had reported that Lampard’s fate had been sealed immediately after the team lost to Leicester City in the last game. And, therefore, a win against Luton in the FA Cup was not going to count to keep the former English international at the club.
Another report was that the Blues hierarchy got concerned after many players complained of lack of tactical directions as the boss only told them to ‘consistently give their all.’
Chelsea is in the fight to get a Champions League spot and faces Laliga leaders Atletico Madrid in the next round of the competition.
