Reverend Bisi highlighted the success stories of several high-profile South Sudanese leaders who started their education in seminaries before excelling in public service

The Assistant Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Sudan and Sudan has called on young people to consider enrolling in seminary institutions, emphasizing that faith-based education can shape them into responsible and visionary leaders.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Reverend Elinama Jacob Bisi, the Assistant Bishop of the church’s Western Equatoria Diocese, stressed that seminary training instills discipline, a strong moral foundation, and leadership skills that benefit not only the church but also society at large.
“A seminary is not just for those who want to become pastors. It is a place where young people learn to become good leaders in any field whether in government, education, or community service. The foundation of God’s word builds them into faithful and responsible citizens,” Bisi said.
The clergyman urged parents to encourage their children to embrace seminary education, explaining that many of South Sudan’s prominent leaders began their journey in religious institutions.
Reverend Bisi highlighted the success stories of several high-profile South Sudanese leaders who started their education in seminaries before excelling in public service. Among them is Africano Mande, the former first governor of the defunct Maridi State and ex-head of the South Sudan National Revenue Authority. Also notable is Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro, the former governor of Western Equatoria State and later a minister in President Salva Kiir’s office.
Both leaders, Bisi noted, built their leadership skills through the moral and intellectual foundation they received in seminary.
“When young people begin their journey with God, they carry those values with them throughout their life. Even when they become ministers, governors, or leaders in any sector, they will serve with integrity and the fear of God,” Bisi emphasized.
He warned that young people who lack moral foundation often struggle with direction in life, stressing that a strong faith can guide them towards success and avoid societal vices.
The Assistant Bishop further urged South Sudanese youth to prioritize their spiritual growth, pointing to the biblical teaching that those who seek God first will receive the rest of life’s blessings.
“When a young man starts his life in the world without God, it is difficult for him to turn back. But if he begins with Christ, he will remain steadfast, no matter where life takes him,” he said.
Bisi believes investing in faith-based leadership training is key to producing responsible leaders for the country’s future.
