JUBA – The Governor of Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil Anthony has called off the ongoing crackdown on vehicles and motorcycles in Juba.
This comes after the national police service launched a serious crackdown on Saturday on vehicles and motorcycles found to be non-compliant with traffic rules. However, the exercise has caused a public outcry within the city.
In a Monday meeting held between the State government and the Heads of Unions of youth, women, boda-boda, and State Chamber of Commerce in Central Equatoria State, the governor called off the ongoing exercise.
Governor Adil ordered for an immediate end of the exercise except for the routine security search in the state until the harmonization of procedures to be done by the newly formed State ad-hoc committee.
The state committee is headed by the Central Equatoria State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement.
The committee is expected to submit its report within 7 days.
Also, Adil formed a committee that is tasked with the removal of all illegal security apparatus in the markets of Juba City and it is to submit a detailed report to the state security committee within 21 days.
He promised to create a conducive atmosphere for the Boda-Boda riders and drivers to operate in the city.
“Also noted with concern on the need for the state authorities to weed out some of the unlawful and unauthorized tax collections being engineered by some of the security apparatus in the state and to streamline and harmonize tax collection institutions to deter tax-related complaints from the paying entities accordingly,” Governor Adil said in the statement.
