Embattled Minster of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Peter Mayen Majongdit said he will not heed the growing calls on him to tender his resignation as he has committed no offense worth exiting a ministerial office.

Mayen came under fire last week after storming a football ground in Aweil to block his wife from taking part in a Women’s football tournament where his bodyguards fired live ammunition to scare a crowd that was blocking Mayen from accessing the wife.

Other Political Parties (OPP), where Mayen is the flag bearer, publicly criticised the action and said the party pushing for Mayen’s ouster from the ministerial post to save the image of the party.

Mayen hit back saying people calling on him to resign were his “good colleagues” who are probably “jealous” of his ascendency to an influential national office adding that he cannot vacate the office when he made no mistake leading to that path.

“I can step aside when I make a mistake, but I have not made any mistake. I have not embezzled public money; I have not involved in any corruption activity. I have not failed my duty as a minister and I have not failed my duty as a political leader, so what is the basis here? Mayen questioned.

“By the time I commit wrong, I will be the first person to say I have done it. So, let them wait until I made a mistake,” he added.

The minster was responding to the calls by his party’s members demanding that he should resign because of his alleged controversial and dramatic conducts.

Last month, Mayen was also accused of forcefully boarding a plane with COVID-19 positive certificate, a claim he denied and termed as baseless.

“I am not controversial in any manner. Otherwise all those allegations and accusations which have been in the past and I will still expect more in future, let them prove it. If there is no prove, then this is described as ill intention and jealousy that is motivated towards a leader in the country,” he added.

He advised those calling on him to step aside to instead direct the call on government officials who practice corruption, embezzle public funds and have committed crimes against humanity to resign.

“We have people in this country, I would advise them actually that they should call on those who have committed crimes against humanity, those have embezzled public money, okay, these are the people they should call on to step aside.”

“But you call on somebody who is protecting his family, his children and his wife, okay, just because she needs to withdraw from that particular match, and you call for a leader in the country to step aside,” he said.
