Italy beat a resolute Austria side 2-1 in the extra time of round of 16 to leap to the quarterfinals of the Euro 2020 tournament.

The match— which was played in UK’s Wembley Stadium— served a beautiful contest where both sides had matching strength. The two teams played for a barren draw in the regular time prompting the match to proceed to the extra time.

It was Juventus forward Federico Chiesa who got the Italians off the mark after receiving a fine cross from Roma’s Leonardo Spinazzola to score from the right flank.

Matteo Pessina doubled the lead before minutes later to give the Italians a firm control of the match.

Austria pulled a goal back through substitute Sasa Kalajdzic who scored a diving header from the corner kick to give his side hopes. However, Roberto Mancini’s men held tight to see off the match.
