The three-day reconciliatory dialogue to end intercommunal clashes in conflict-ridden Jonglei State and Pibor Administrative Area comes to an end in Juba today.

President Salva Kiir, a major guest who graced the event is expected to give closing remarks to wrap the event whose outcome could restore peace in the conflict-affected areas.

In attendance are senior political figures, including Vice Presidents Taban Deng Gai, Dr. James Wani Igga, Rebecca Nyandeng, and Hussein Abdelbagi. Also in attendance is Deng Dau, deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Delegates from the two regions are expected to sign and to commit to resolutions ending any possible return to conflict. 

Resolutions on the table

The resolutions to be signed encompass the enforcement of local authorities in the communities of Jonglei and Pibor Administrative Area, the need for improved network coverage for communications in the areas, creation of unified forces to be based in the areas to ensure security.

To curb conflict emanating from cattle raiding, the resolutions also provide that communities brand their cattle for easy identification.

The president is expected to witness the signing of the resolutions by the end of the programme. From its inception, the conference uncovered the root causes of the conflict in Jonglei State and Pibor Administrative Area.

Signing of the people to people peace resolutions between Jonglei and Pibor Administrative Area could go a long way in ending a 20-year-long conflict between the two communities.
