Kenyan medical authorities are investigating an incident where a woman mysteriously succumbed after taking the COVID-19 vaccine.

The incident, which happened in Uasin Gishu County on Friday has attracted the attention of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), a body mandated to streamline medical prescriptions in the country.

According to Citizen Digital, Dr Peter Ikamati, from the PPB, there are no prior pieces of evidence linking the death to the AstraZeneca jab or a miscarriage that was noted in the deceased.

“What we can say is it was a misreport, an expectant female got a miscarriage, it happened within period of being given vaccine. Miscarriage could have happened, it does not have to be linked to the shot,” he was quoted saying on Wednesday.

“Because of the gravity of the matter, when a severe case is reported, PPB will follow up within 24hours.”

The Kenyan health official further said the country had inoculated 370,000 Kenyans out of which 279 people had developed severe reaction to the jab and seven had mild reactions.

Another health official, Dr. Collins Tabu who the Kenyan head of immunization in  ministry of health said side effects such as diarrhoea and hypertension were prevalent in the recipients of COVID-19 vaccine.

The safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been a thorny issue with European countries holding the stop button over its administration, citing incidences of blood clots.

Of late, Germany ceased inoculating population for under 60 with Astra after cases of life-threatening coagulation emerged.
