The Kenyan embassy in South Sudan has warned that South Sudanese government has stopped issuing visas on arrival to Kenyans in a raft of changes affecting traveling procedures. The embassy has instructed Kenyans traveling to South Sudan to acquire the document at the South Sudanese embassy in Nairobi, or use the online platform to get the e-visas.
“Kindly be advised that the government of South Sudan has stopped issue of visa on arrival there, you are advised to apply for e-visa at Nairobi alternatively the visa can be applied for on line,” read the public notice issued on Tuesday, January 19.
The Kenyan Juba-based embassy sent the notification after receiving the information from the South Sudanese government on Monday.
The embassy urged Kenyans in Juba to inform their friends and family members of the changes so that they can avoid being inconvenienced.
An employee at the Kenyan embassy in Juba who spoke to City Review anonymously confirmed the notice but attributed the changes to the drive to embrace e-visa platform.
“It is true and Kenyans are being encouraged to use the e-visa form and should get it from the South Sudan embassy in Nairobi and the same applies to the South Sudanese citizens when they travel,” he said.
He warned that under the new traveling protocols, South Sudanese may not be able to board a plane to Nairobi without preparing the visas beforehand.
