President Salva Kiir has declared three days of mourning following the death of Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno (pictured) on Tuesday.

The Statehouse shared the directive on government’s official Twitter handle adding that state institutions will be required to fly flags half-mast during those three days.

The death

Before his death, the late Deby had won a sixth term presidency according to the preliminary results.

Army spokesperson Général Azem Bemrandoua Agouna announced on state-run radio that he succumbed to the injuries he suffered as he led troops against insurgents, Front for Change and Concord in Chad, in the northern part of the country.

The rebels entered Chad from Libya and have been fighting to topple the 31-year reign of Deby.
