A 12-hour-long power outage is being experienced in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, after the country’s power supplier announced routine maintenance on Saturday, July 17.
Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) warned its clients on Saturday and it would be engaged in a maintenance program that would mean that the city would be plunged in darkness from 6 am to 6 pm.
‘‘JEDCO takes this opportunity to inform its esteemed customers that on Monday, July 19, 2021, there will be the Annual preventive maintenance on Juba Substation and Distribution Network. Therefore there will be total power Interruption due to this exercise,’’ JEDCO noted in a Facebook post.
It added: ‘‘JEDCO apologies in advance for the temporary inconvenience.’’
The supplier has been upgrading its power distribution approaches with one of the latest moves being the shelving of the old meter reading before making payments.
JEDCO told the consumers on July 12 to embrace the payment via mobile phones through buying of tokens.
‘‘We are working on introducing various new payment options including cell phone payments and our partnership with mGurush means new tokens are just a click away. We will keep you informed about the pending mGurush option,’’ JEDCO said in a recent post on their social media page.
