President Salva Kiir Mayardit Sunday hosted Muslim Community for a dinner in Juba to mark the beginning of Eid-al-Fitr- a Muslim feast celebrated after Ramadan every year.

The head of the state normally preside over the event at the State House, JI, but this time at Freedom Hall, the main public venue located south of Dr. John Garang Mausoleum.

According to the Presidential press unit, the occasion was also attended by senior government officials, including First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, other vice presidents and members of diplomatic community to show solidarity and a sense of unity among Christians and Muslims in the country.

“What is happening in South Sudan is not happening in so many countries-that we have agreed and accepted to stay together as one South Sudanese family regardless of our different ethnic and religion groups,” Kiir was quoted speaking at the event.

President Kiir who is a Christian, urged all the South Sudanese, including the government officials to maintain the spirit of solidarity and unity in the country.

“Whatever our faith, we are all one family,” Kiir said calling on the Muslim Community to pray to Allah to guide the leaders in addressing national issues that have ravaged the country.
