A seven-year-old girl was killed and five other people injured in a car accident in Bentiu IDP camp on Thursday. The accident involved members from the same family.

Speaking to The City Review on Friday, Unity States Traffic Director, Domai Dak Kai, said the incident took place on Thursday at sector two market block in Bentiu IDP camp.

He said the driver of the car was over speeding towards sector two block one in the Bentiu IDP camp, when he lost control and hit the girl alongside the five other family members. The girl died on the spot, while the other injured family members were taken to Bentiu Hospital and are receiving treatment.

The deceased was identified as Nyachangkuoth Beliew from Leer County.

This morning when the team tried to go through an investigation and the team found him, he’s still in bad condition he didn’t recover from the situation he murder small child and five other people and the team from the investigation cancelled the police next week.

“The driver was over speeding while driving towards sector two, block one when he had the accident. While the speed limit within the camp is capped at between 30 to 40 kilometres, he was driving at 80kilometres, which is not acceptable,” Kai said, adding that the investigators found the driver at a critical condition in hospital when they went to do their interrogation and investigations.

He appealed to drivers within the IDP camp and other protection centres to be cautious and to follow traffic rules.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness, Gai Tut, while confirming the incident, shared his condolences to the bereaved families, and urged drivers to adhere to the rules in the camp.

“Condolence to the family of the late Nyachangkuoth Beliew who passed away yesterday (on Thursday). This is very sad to us as residents of Bentiu IDP,” he said.
