President Salva Kiir has expressed willingness to midwife peace agreement between Sudan and Ethiopia to address the simmering border dispute between the two countries.

Xhinua, a Chinese media outlet, reported on Thursday that Sudan’s Sovereign Council had revealed that Juba was preparing to cool down the tension that had been sparked by airspace violation.

It reported that Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan met with South Sudan’s Presidential Adviser on Security Affairs Tut Gatluak after which the latter conveyed the message from the head of state.

“President Salva Kiir has expressed readiness to mediate between Sudan and Ethiopia to reach a political and diplomatic solution according to the recognized international borders in preservation of the fraternal ties between the two countries and the peace in the region,” the press quoted Gatluak saying.

There have been border tensions between Sudan Ethiopia dating back to three decades. On Wednesday, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affiars accused Ethiopian troops of penetrating its air space. Together with it is the seizure of Fashaga area which has gone for years without solution.
