The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition has filled the vacancies in the National Liberation Council (NLC) as the political outfit embarks on a revamp.

The SPLM-IO Director for Information and Public Relations, Puok Both Baluang, told The City Review yesterday that the country’s main opposition had filled all the NLC vacancies, but had yet to appoint someone to fill the deputy chairperson position formerly held by Henry Dilah Odwar.

‘‘We have finished with the filling of vacancies on the National Liberation Council for all states, and currently, we are listening to the reports from the states and administrative areas, and we are still here, but the appointments of the deputy chairperson are still pending, although it is one of the agendas remaining,’’ he said, as the party continued to deliberate on the way forward.

The top leadership of the party was holed up in a meeting for the better party yesterday, but Baluang said it was not known whether the party’s second in command would be found.

Mr Baluang added that “Yes, it is on the agenda, but again, it depends on time whether the deputy chairman can be announced today, and we still have some vacancies within the political bureau (PB).”

Contacted after the meeting, Baluang said: “some agendas were adjourned but that will be discussed tomorrow but not in the hole; it will be discussed at party level and the resolutions will be out tomorrow (today).”

He added that “today we finished the reorganisations of National Liberation Council (NLC) and also listened to reports from the state chairpersons regarding the issues of security areas and many more others”.

However, he said everything depends on reports from the state chairpersons, adding that an announcement would be made sooner.

On Wednesday, Baluang told The City Review that their NLC meeting would fill all the vacancies in the party, including the deputy chairperson. “The meeting is the 4^th SPLM/A-IO Liberation Council. It aims at completing the National Liberation Council, especially the vacant positions within the National Liberation Council of SPLM-IO. All the members who have defected, including others who have lost their lives, will be back tomorrow (today), “he revealed.
