Sudan has summoned its ambassador to Ethiopia back to Khartoum ‘for consultations’ over the simmering diplomatic tension between the two countries.

Reuters reported on Wednesday that Sudanese spokesperson of the foreign ministry confirmed the incident. According to Reuters, the Khartoum administration is yet to explain what consultations are all about.

The ministry blamed Ethiopian troops of aggression by entering the Sudanese territory on Sunday but failed to give more insight into whether such incidence would form the basis of discussion.

The two countries are locked in a feud over an agricultural area called Al Fashqa which hosts most Ethiopian farmers. Sudan claims the area as part of her territory and has accused Addis Ababa administration of conducting a military raid in the area. Ethiopia on the other hand has lashed at Sudanese security personnel and accused them of looting animals and crops from the farmers.

In January, South Sudan President Salva Kiir offered to mediate the conflict between the two Nile countries. Last week, Abiy Ahmed’s administration welcomed Kiir’s offer but said Addis Ababa is ready for dialogue but will priotise solving internal conflicts on its own.
