Sudanese President Lt. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has jetted into the country for an official visit. The Sudanese leader jetted in at the Juba International Airport on Tuesday evening after which he was escorted under heavy security to the State House to meet President Salva Kiir for talks.
Details from the meeting are yet to be communicated to the media.
His visit comes just hours after Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni revealed on his Twitter page that he had met Gen al-Burhan for a bilateral relations talk in Uganda.
He tweeted: ‘‘[I] met with Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan Chairman of the Transitional Military Council of Sudan. Our two countries will continue to work towards strengthening our political, trade, economic ties and support the peace process in Sudan.’’
Previous visit
His visit comes barely a week after another state visit by the Sudanese minister for foreign affairs Dr Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi who met President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday, February 26, at the State House in Juba.
The State House remained economical with the details of the subject of the discussion of the two leaders and only tweeted: ‘‘H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit received and met with Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi who paid a courtesy call on him at his official residence in Juba.’’
Before that, the visiting minister had also met the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring & Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) for assessment on the peace deal progress where she was hosted by the commission chair Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai.
‘‘Very cordial meeting held this afternoon with H.E. Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan, and chair of IGAD Council of Ministers,’’ RJMEC tweeted on Thursday evening.
‘‘The RJMEC Chair had the opportunity to comprehensively brief the new Sudanese FM on progress and obstacles in the implementation of the R-ARCSS.’’
