The former Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan, Dr. James Alic Garang on Tuesday wrote to President Salva Kiir thanking him for the opportunity given to him to serve the nation.
Dr. Alic was sacked on Monday in a presidential decree read out on the state-owned television, SSBC, and replaced by Johnny Ohisa, who previously served in the same capacity.
In his letter, Dr. Alic also congratulated his successor for his appointment and wished him well during his term in office.
“Your Excellency, it has been an incredible honor to contribute to the economic development and financial stability of our great nation under your visionary leadership,” Dr. Alic wrote.
“Your unwavering commitment to fostering a robust financial system has inspired me and my team to work diligently toward achieving our shared goals.”
“Together, we have made a lasting impact, and I look forward to serving our people in another capacity in the future.”
Dr. Alic came into office in October 2023 and had served for one year and four months.
He was appointed at a time when there was persistent depreciation of local currency, the South Sudanese Pound against the United States Dollar, and tried ti stabilize the currency, amid various prevalent challenges.
However, as a gesture of gratitude, the newly recruited staff of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) on December 6, 2024, presented a letter of honor, privilege, and appreciation to the then Bank Governor Dr. James Alic Garang.
They acknowledged Key achievements made by Dr. James Alic Garang including the completion of the Bank’s landmark headquarters’ last phase construction in Juba, the expansion of BoSS Branches across the country, the modernization of the banking sector and digital banking systems, and the improvement of staff welfare.
The new staff reiterated their commitment to maximizing their time at the BoSS by gaining further knowledge and supporting the fulfillment of the Bank’s vision and mission.
“Hon. Governor, we are very lucky and privileged to have joined the BoSS during your tenure because we have been keenly and admirably watching your down-to-earth leadership style and strategic policy interventions,” the letter further states.
They also commended Dr. Alic for his professionalism in tackling the multi-faceted and multi-sectoral challenges impacting the economy and highlighted his significant, pragmatic steps since assuming office.
