A woman in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained in an ambush on the Hiyala–Torit road on Sunday.

She died at Torit Civil Hospital on Monday where she was undergoing treatment.

According to the local authorities, a well-known Hiyala youth opened fire at a government vehicle that was travelling along the road and injuring three people including the deceased.

In an interview with The City Review on Monday, the Hiyala Payam paramount chief, Galileo Ohide, said the other two survivors were undergoing medication at Torit Civil Hospital.

“The woman was taken to the hospital but she died and she has been taken to Loguruny for burial.”

Meanwhile, Mustafa Lokuru, the Medical Director at Torit Civil Hospital said the doctors tried so hard to save the life of the woman but their efforts were futile since the internal organ was damaged.

He said the other two survivors were being taken care of very well at the hospital.

Last month, a 39-year-old aid worker was shot and injured on the Torit-Magwi Road in Eastern Equatoria State.

Annet D. Alex was traveling in a Toyota Landcruiser, which fell into an ambush between Magwi and Torit; in Imurok Payam.  The vehicle was carrying two senior staff members.

Police Inspector for Magwi County, Lt. Col. Paulino Lowi Iko, revealed that the attackers had guns pointed at the vehicle, and the driver did not stop, a mkve that probably made the attackers shoot and injure Annet, who works as a finance officer at the organization.

“They shot the car immediately, and the bullet hit the woman inside the car; that was also their finance officer,” Iko was quoted as saying, and added that the victim was in stable condition and that the cops were still looking for the suspect to find out more details into their intentions.
