US Congress upheld the victory of President-elect Joe Biden by certifying his win despite chaos that rocked the country on Wednesday.

In a paradoxical twist of events, Reuters reported that President Donald Trump pledged a ‘’smooth and orderly’’ transition come January 20 despite maintaining that he was the bonafide winner of the 2020 poll.

‘’Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20^th,’’ White House Spokesman Dan Scavino tweeted.

US media reported that Senate and the House of Representatives had to reject two objections earlier to consequently certify the final results of the Electoral College where Biden won by 306 votes against Trump’s 232.

The US Vice President Mike Pence was roped in declaring Biden’s win as he stated: ‘’This shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons elected president and vice president of the United States.’’

Democrat’s Joe Biden and vice president designate Kamala Harris are expected to take over the mantle of power after a victory laden with accusations of vote rigging.

The 2020 election, which preceded the widespread bloody and chaotic Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests, left a trail of division among the US nationals.

Biden then held a reassuring victory speech in his hometown in Wisconsin as he said that he would not only lead the ‘’blue states’’.  Republicans battled division as a section wanted Trump to concede and exit power honourably, while another faction joined him in bashing the electoral body as he dropped endless unverified claims of vote rigging.

The certification comes after the US police spent the better part of Wednesday battling pro-Trump protesters who scaled the metallic security walls to storm Capitoll Hill to stop the legislators from rolling out the certification debate.

This was after Trump had urged his supporters to help him overturn the loss. The chaos culminated in loss of four lives—three out of medical emergencies and one from gunshot wounds. 52 others were arrested.

The incident elicited bashing from House Republican Chairwoman Liz Cheney who accused Trump of fanning chaos by using baseless rigging claims.
