The South Sudan National Police Service has made significant progress in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the country, particularly in Sector 6 of Gumba.

According to the police spokesperson, James Monday Enoka, a recent joint operation led by security forces has resulted in the arrest of thirty suspects, including four women.

“The Joint Operation, which was launched last month, is in progress,” Enoka stated during a press briefing. “Yesterday, the Joint Operation of Sector 6 managed to arrest 30 suspects, including four women. This group of gangs are suspected of committing a number of crimes, including theft, robberies, causing violence, blab, and drug abuses.”

The suspects were reportedly caught in possession of various stolen goods and tools used in criminal activities. “They were found in possession of ‘exobeds’, used to facilitate their movements as they commit their crimes,” he explained, though he did not specify the exact nature or meaning of the term “exobeds.” He further revealed that police recovered five sterling goods, several knives, and pangas believed to have been used in acts of violence.

“These weapons were found in their possession. They used them to commit the crimes, especially to cause violence,” Enoka continued. “They are actually consuming a lot of drugs to stimulate them to commit these crimes.”

Police have already launched a formal investigation into the suspects. “The police investigation has been launched to specifically investigate them. After the completion of the investigation, they will be taken before the court of law to face justice,” he added.

Enoka noted that security has significantly improved in Gumba due to the success of the ongoing operation. He thanked residents for their cooperation and acknowledged the work of the security forces. “So the security station in Gumba has improved, as the operation is going on very well. I thank the people of Gumba for their cooperation with the security forces.”

“I also want to thank the Joint Security Operation for the good work done. We support them, saying that they continue to crack down on these criminals, so that Gumba and the whole area of Gumba is peaceful,” Enoka emphasized.

According to the police spokesperson, similar operations are underway across all ten states and the three administrative areas of South Sudan. “I’m happy to say similar effort is also taking place in all the 10 states and the three administrative areas under the respective police commanders.”

Enoka concluded by assuring the public that the police service remains committed to its mandate. “Because of this effort, the rate of crime is decreasing. It is reducing. This is actually our primary mandate. We are committed to our mandate, and we still appeal for cooperation from the public.”
