The European Union Commissioner for crisis management Janez Lenarcic (pictured) has jetted in the country in a maiden visit.
According to the European Union South Sudan Twitter handle, Lenarcic will be visiting Pibor and Likwangole where he will also meet South Sudan Civil Society and government officials. Details pertaining to his visit are still scanty but he tweeted during the day that he had visited Ethiopia for what appeared as a diplomatic visit.
He tweeted: ‘‘While in Ethiopia today, I met with the Flag of EthiopiaDPM
@DemekeHasen and conveyed my grave concern over the critical humanitarian situation in Tigray and urged further improvements of the humanitarian access; urged the withdrawal of the Flag of Eritrea troops; called for the cessation of hostilities.’’ Lenarcic is the first EU executive body to visit South Sudan since 2015.
