Police in Rocky City, Juba, have returned a three-day-old baby to his mother after he was sold out by the mother for SSP10,000.

The area chief Anthony Luka said the 32-year-old woman sold her three-day-old son to a certain woman in Nyakuon South-West residential area on Monday.

He said the child spent one day out before he was returned to the mother by the police.

Luka narrated how the woman gave birth last Friday and decided to sell out her baby on Monday to another woman in Nyakuron.

“The woman gave birth to a child last week on Friday and the baby is good. But, surprisingly on Monday this week, she took her three-day-old son and went with him somewhere, and in the evening she came back home without the baby,” Luka said.

Luka said after the woman was asked by the family where the baby was and she started panicking before disappearing from home.

 “We searched for her until she was found and taken to the police for more investigation. She told the police that her son was with another nurse,” Luka narrated.

According to Luka, the investigation revealed that the woman who was keeping her baby gave the mother of the child some money and left with the baby.

According to the area chief, the police went and got the woman with the baby and all were brought to the Rock City Police for more investigation.

“She accepted that she gave some money to the mother of the boy but it was on request of the mother that she has nothing to eat,” Luka said.

“The woman said after she gave the mother of the child SSP10,000, she told her to let the baby remain with her and that she would [come later].”

The woman denied buying the baby as she said the mother of the child did not come back and this forced her to take care of the baby.

 “But to be honest brother, no one has been supporting the woman, and she has been surviving on her own. Did things become difficult within these three days after giving birth?” the chief questioned. 

 “I understand the father of the child is a soldier and even not within Juba,” he added.
