A family-run jewellery store in south-west London became the latest target of a brazen daytime robbery on January 31, as two masked men smashed the shopfront and made off with valuable items in front of stunned onlookers.
Video footage captured by TikTok user Amy Hilton shows one of the men using a sledgehammer to shatter the window of Gregory & Co, a jewellery shop along Richmond’s cobblestone Paved Court. While he tore off the glass panel, his accomplice scooped up jewellery into a blue bag.
A staff member tried to fend off the robbers, hitting one with a block-like object, but the pair continued their raid before fleeing down the street. The entire incident, which unfolded around 10:30 a.m., lasted barely 30 seconds.
Shocked onlookers at a nearby café were heard calling for police and advising each other to lock the door in case the robbers turned their attention to the café.
Richmond is known for its affluent neighbourhood along the River Thames and hosts several high-end jewellers and luxury watch stores. Paved Court, where the robbery occurred, has also served as a filming location for Apple TV’s hit series Ted Lasso.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the case is being treated as an aggravated burglary. Officers arrived within three minutes, arresting a 33-year-old man, though the other suspect remains at large.
