The commissioner of Mundri West County, Zelipha Dawa, escaped death by a whisker after she was reportedly attacked in Mundri town on Saturday by an unknown assailant.

In an interview with The City Review, a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal said an unidentified assailant found the commissioner at her home reading and tried to stab her.

“The commissioner was reading newspapers in the sitting room, and as she was relaxing, a stranger entered her room and immediately asked, “Commissioner, is it you?” The source explained, “Today it is either me or you.” the source explained.

The attacker pulled out a knife after his last statements and tried to stab her.

Dawa is said to have raised the alarm by shouting for help, prompting her bodyguards to arrive at the scene and secure her.

“You know, when death is coming and you are seeing, there are two things you can either do or die.

“If you want to escape, use what can help you. That is exactly what happened. Second, I believe God gave her the ability to flee,” the source said.

The intention of the attacker remains unknown as the suspect is still under investigation.

When contacted for comment, Dawa declined to give details of the attack, saying the issue was already being handled by the security personnel and that the investigation was still ongoing.

“Don’t worry, I am fine and safe. What I can say is that the matter is in the hands of security personnel, and if it becomes necessary, I will inform you,”  she said.
