A senior representative of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) at the Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), Major Gen. Jany Kaway Yoa has called for the completion of the unification of forces to end the ongoing unnecessary clashes across the country.

Gen. Kaway blamed the parties to the peace agreement for delaying the implementation of the unification of forces, which he attributed to a failure to control the security situation in the country.

“[It is] Because of the delay in the implementation of the unification of forces and the acceleration of the deployment of these forces, although they do not have weapons. I think we are not able to control the situation. This reason the ceasefire is being violated.”

He urged both SPLM-IG and SPLM-IO to calm the situation in the country

“The two parties are fighting on the grounds, but they are friendly in Juba,” he said.

“You share the cake here in Juba and the citizens of this country die on the ground,” Gen. Kaway said.

Speaking about the ongoing removal of illegal checkpoints, he said the process should not be implemented by one party.

According to him, the operation should be conducted by the unified forces.

There have been ceasefire violations in Western Equatoria, Western Bahr el-Ghazal, and the Upper Nile States.

“Let the parties not focus on the ceasefire issue, but rather on knowing what the Joint Defense Boards is doing.”

“Let’s not talk about the ceasefire again because it has already been violated. What we will notice is how the Joint Defense Board in Bilpam observes those issues,” Gen. Kaway remarked.

He continued that it is easy to restore stability and peace in those areas because the generals on the ground know the main causes of the clashes.
