The former VP, in his swearing in as SPLM Sec. General, applauded the party for its tireless contribution, determination and unwavering discipline in supporting its leadership

The newly sworn-in SPLM Secretary-General, Dr. James Wani Igga said some of them from the womb, are born revolutionaries and undoubted patriots.

“Truly, some of us have manifested this beyond doubt, to the SPLM in the first place, and secondly to the beloved people of South Sudan. We can still creatively and energetically, inject more innovation in the upcoming journey, to meet the aspirations of our people,” said Dr. Igga.

He made the statement upon his swearing-in yesterday as the SPLM Secretary-General.

Dr. Igga told the crowd that the sacrifices of the party in the liberation and civil conflict would be treasured, referring to the growth of the party after Dr. John Garang’s death and even upon the selection of H.E Salva Kiir as chairman.

He applauded the party for its tireless contribution, determination and unwavering discipline in supporting its leadership.

Also, he stressed the need for unity in the party, “A divided house, surely collapses.”

“The recent changes in the executive wing of the government should not negatively cause an earthquake,” Dr. Igga said.

“Comrades, nothing will change my long loyalty and patriotism to this nation, people and the gallant strugglers, after the hard 21 years of unbearable sufferings, sacrifices and agonies,” he continued.

The former vice president also reminded the members of the unforgettable role and aspiration of the First Chairman of the SPLM and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLA, Dr. John Garang De Mabior in uniting the people of South Sudan.

He summoned them to remember the wise guidance and teachings of the late Dr. John Garang.

“Our hard labour, must patter out in a manner compelling us to take towns to our people, who have so much sacrificed themselves for a bitter 40 years of sweat and shedding of blood, to achieve the long-aspired independence,” Dr. Igga stated.

Unveiling his work plan to strengthen the party, Igga called for the need to financially strengthen, re-strategize, reorganize, and reenergize the SPLM in the upcoming 2026 elections.

He appealed for genuine reconciliation and forgiveness to one another to cohesively forge a way forward for a common purpose. 

Dr. Igga talked about the conflict in the three regions of the country and urged leaders both within the SPLM party and outside to adhere to regional diversity and representation of the SPLM in the government structures up to the presidency.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the party to the best of his abilities and reminding the members never to forget the welfare of heroes and veterans.

“We must put people first, in everything we do and every resource we raise, not self,” he stated.
