A resident in Aweil revealed that what justifies their claim is that two cows were identified at slaughterhouse in Darfur’s market by the victims of the raid.

The Aweil north peace committee in Northern Bahr el Gazal State has detained two suspects Rezigrat nomads from Darfur over 22 cattle raided from Gok-machar.

One of the residents in Aweil, Mr. Leek Leek said the decision made by the peace committee to bring back the missing cows is laudable.

He said the community is ready to work with the peace committee comprised of both the Rezigat and the Dinka Malual to ensure the cattle are returned to them.

“If the peace committee works hard to bring back our cows in form of money then we would have no problem with the Rezigat nomads as they have been residing here with us, they are our brothers.”

“All we want is peaceful resolution to such theft case which can mount to tension,” he stated.

Leek revealed that what attests or justifies their claim is that two cows were identified at slaughterhouse in Darfur’s market by the victims of the raid.

Rezigat representative, Abdallah Sheikh who resides in Gok Machar confirmed that he saw two cows were being driven across the border to Sudan and he came and informed the authorities in Gok-machar.

Mr. Sheikh disclosed that they sat as peace committee and calculated the amount to SSP 31 million to compensate the owners of the cows.

“I got two cows and the reason that makes the two suspects detained is because the cows were found in their kraal in Darfur and we do tell them to bring back the cows. So they are going to pay the cows,” he noted.

The Secretary General of Peace Committee in Gok-machar said they are following up the matter as the two Suspects from Sudan are being detained in Kiir-Adem police custody.

Dinka Malual and Rezigat and Misseriya had signed peace accords in the past that allows the compensation cattle when looted by any of the either side.
