Authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State arrested two suspects involved in drug trafficking in a residential area in Wau.
In a statement to The City Review yesterday, on Tuesday, the state police spokesperson Major Santino Odole Miyan, revealed that they got information that some young men were selling drugs near his house.
The police, he said, responded to the report and moved quickly and arrested two of the suspects in possession of the drugs, which later turned out to include drugs used intravenously, in addition to Tramadol, and white weapons. Some of the suspects fled in the melee.
Santino said that a case has been opened as they undertake investigations.
He confirmed that the police are still searching for the rest of the suspects, while those arrested will be brought to trial soon.
He added that a woman was arrested during the raid, as she obstructed the police from their duty. A separate case has been opened to attend to her.
Santino appealed to the community to immediately report any suspicious cases in their residential areas, so that the police can arrest the criminals.
In a separate incident, police in Western Bahr el Ghazal State recovered the body of a 12-year-old child on Tuesday morning, who had drowned in a river, on Monday.
In an interview with this publication after the discovery, the child’s mother revealed that her son fell into the river while they were fishing with his older brother.
“They were using a boat, and when they reached the middle of the river, they were attacked by a hippopotamus, which caused them to sink into the water, while the elder brother escaped,” she said.
Aner Deng added that the family filed a report at the Wau main Market Police Station. Unfortunately, she has been waiting since Monday for the body to be relocated in vain. However, on Tuesday morning, they found the child’s body stuck in a fishing net.
The police retrieved it, completed the procedures and handed it over to his family.
