The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, on Thursday met with chiefs from Greater Yei and discussed areas of collaboration between the State Government and traditional leaders at the grassroots level.
Governor Mujung underscoring the vital role chiefs play in fostering harmony among community members and urged them to act as peace ambassadors by uniting the people, promote community dialogue, and seek grassroots solutions to the challenges facing their communities. He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to working collectively with traditional leaders to address these challenges.
”In working with the government, chiefs act as a bridge between the local people and State authorities. By collaborating with the government, chiefs enhance trust and cooperation, paving the way for sustainable peace and development in their areas,” the governor was quoted as saying.
Speaking to the press shortly after the meeting, Elias Khamis Barnaba, Chairperson of the Greater Yei Chiefs, said the delegation delivered a congratulatory message to the Governor on his appointment. He emphasized that the discussions also focused on strengthening relations between the State Government and the chiefs of Greater Yei.
”It was a fruitful meeting we had with the Governor. Among other issues, we also discussed security concerns at the grassroots level. We reaffirm our commitment to stand with the State Government,” said Chief Khamis.
According to a statement from the governor’s press unit, the chiefs visiting chiefs included representatives from Yei, Kajo-Keji, Morobo, and Lainya counties. The meeting unpacked the State Government’s efforts to work hand in hand with local leaders in promoting good governance and upholding the rule of law at the grassroots level.
