Central Equatoria State Security Committee has issued a directive to authorities to enforce adherence to hygiene across Juba, as cholera cases surge.

In a meeting chaired by the state Governor Augustino Jadalla on Tuesday, the committee instructed the leadership of Juba City Council to conduct thorough inspections of water tanks to curb the spread of the disease.

Following the meeting, Hon. Leone Abe Brown, State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency emphasized on the urgency of public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and adhering to strict hygiene protocols, especially with the rainy season approaching.

“Juba City Council and Juba County should intensify their efforts to ensure that all water tanks are thoroughly inspected. Clean water is a fundamental necessity, and we will not tolerate negligence in its distribution,” Minister Abe was quoted as saying by the Governor’s press unit.

The government urges all residents to remain vigilant, report hygiene violations, and uphold sanitation standards to prevent further escalation of the cholera outbreak.

The statement further added that security forces launched a crackdown on public health violators and apprehended a butcher in Custom for selling dog meat. Minister Abe said that the suspect is under investigation, and authorities have been ordered to arrest anyone engaged in such hazardous practices.
