The man who was convicted in October 2020 of killing three children in the Rock City residential area in Juba has been executed, the police have confirmed.

 Babu Emmanuel Lokiri, 25, was hanged to death in Juba yesterday, nearly a year after being convicted by the high court for the gruesome murder of siblings in early 2020.

The court heard that the deceased entered the house when the parents were away and committed the offence using a knife. This was in accordance with the testimony of the close relatives of the slain children.

The victims were Lydia Edward aged nine, Blessing Edward (seven), and four-year-old Nura Edward.

“He (Babu) was executed at 2 pm today (Friday) [and] the prison authorities are in contact with the relatives to hand over the body to them,” Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin, the police spokesperson, told The City Review on Friday evening.

Sentencing             

He was sentenced by the high court judge, Duoth Kulang Bishok, under Section 224 of the Criminal Procedure Act (2008) and 206 of the South Sudan Penal Code.

“In accordance with section 224 of the Criminal Procedure Act 2006, the court has found that the accused person is guilty of the charges of murder under section 206 of the Penal Code 2008. The death sentence against the convicted Babu Emmanuel Lokiri, as follows, ” Judge Kulang read when he was convicted.

 “One, the convict Babu Emmanuel Lokiri, should be hanged by the neck until he is dead. Two, the case papers to be submitted to the Supreme Court for confirmation after 15 days of appeal; and three, the knife [he used] should be destroyed in the criminal court by the court police. “

Babu’s lawyer, Simon Akeny, who then insisted that his client was innocent, is yet to react to the execution.

However, both parents of the siblings opted not for the blood compensation but for Babu’s execution.

“Let him die the way my children died,” the slain children’s father, Edward Andrew Loboka said. “He slaughtered my children like sheep. If the court can slaughter him like a sheep, let it be done to him so that he feels the pain that Naomi, Blessing, and Nura felt.”

For her part, Gilda Kenda Kedion, mother of the children, said: “This man killed my children in a very brutal way.” If there was a death sentence, it would be good for him because he may do the same again. “
