Atleast three people have succumbed to Ebola over the past few days in Guinea forcing the West African country to activate emergency response.
BBC Africa reported yesternight that among those who died were individuals who had participated in the burial of a nurse who was first discovered with the haemorrhagic disease. The nurse died on January 28. They complained of diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding before their death.
The disease is reported to have emerged at the same spot in Guinea where another Ebola epidemic emerged killing 11,000 people in West Africa between the years 2013 to 2016.
World Health Organization (WHO) is in the process of bringing the vaccine to the threatened areas to prevent a possibility of a full-blown epidemic. The vaccine is said to have been effective in managing similar cases in Congo.
“The WHO is on full alert and is in contact with the manufacturer [of a vaccine] to ensure the necessary doses are made available as quickly as possible to help fight back,” the AFP news agency quoted the WHO representative in Guinea Alfred George Ki-Zerbo saying.
